    Mannyed!

Welcome to my first blog entry.  I'm new at this and not sure exactly where this is going but I think I will focus on my joy that is Manny.  My first cat, my first pet (excluding the myriad of fish--do they count?) what better to write about than my first experience of pet ownerdom.

    MANNYED!  And loving it!

My husband and I adopted our cat from a shelter about a week ago.  That's an experience in and of itself let alone the fact of bringing home a new cat.  We decided to search for an older cat b/c of our work schedules.  We played with a lot of different cats that day, but none sparked our interest quit like Manny.  Here's why:

    • His full name: Manicotti
    • The number on his ID tag reads "924" a.k.a. my wedding date.  So not only were we getting a cat named Manicotti, but my husband was going to get a constant reminder of our wedding anniversary.  Very convenient for gift giving purposes.
    • Manny has a bit of "catitude" in him.  Right from when we finally said "that's the one!", he promptly got up, walked across the room and back handed another cat with his right paw. I secretly think he was saying, "peace out, sucka!"  And ever since then we've been Mannyed!  And Manny is gonna be loved.

    SO WHY DOES MANNY...

Sit like a bunny (maybe a Sphinx is more accurate)?  Scratch his ear like it was a scratch 'n sniff sticker*?  Meow when we are not around, ignore us when we are around? Constantly loose his mouse under the LaZboy, Use the kitty litter after we just cleaned it?  I guess some of these questions are normal for a first time cat owner.  Feel free to enlighten me. And then feel free to answer my cat questions.  ^..^

*Going to the vet today to solve the scratch and sniff problem.  Wish Manny luck!

    TTYL...

    Mannyed. (and loving it!)

Thanks everyone for sharing our common love of cats. Sounds like all of us have saved at least one or two from the jaws of death or abuse. It's so important to make sure all our "babies" are spayed or neutered AND kept inside. There is so much evidence that reaffirms that indoor pets are happy, healthier, and lead longer lives. Our neighbors had a beautiful orange tabby that adopted me but supposedly lived over there. One day another neighbor asked me if it was my cat because an animal had really torn him up. I was so grieved, and even though I know I will see Mr. Hobbs someday again in heaven, I still miss him so much. If only the humans had thought about the dangers he faced out there!

I currently care for three cats.  Holly is a black and white long hair, with yellow eyes who is 13.  My neighbor was  burrying the kittens people drop off at his place- alive in a sack, ( out here in the country we get a lot of drop off kittens.  The local Humane Scociety doesn't accept cats most of the time, so he gets tired of trying to find homes for them). I must say, I don't know which neighbor it was, a different neighbor happened to be over and rescued Holly from the bag.  When she brought Holly over and told me her situation, I couldn't refuse.  She is my favorite-has a typical cat attitude.  She loves me though, and that's what makes you feel special, you ARE.  She is not a fighter and choses to run away when pushed out of the way when eating, by my second rescued girl, Wyile. Watched her run from garbage can to garbage can 12 years ago in the fall.  When she was just a kitten, I caught her once in my Have-A-Heart trap while trying to catch a raccoon.  She was starving and the peanut butter and cracker made her take a chance.  She ran like crazy when I released her from the cage.  By February, she was as round as a basketball.  The snow was two feet deep and I began letting her sleep in my garage.  When her water dish froze up one night, I told my husband I HAD to let her in, in her "condition".  We made a cat lodge for her in the basement and one night at about 12:00 a.m. I went down to check on her and she was in labor and was blessed with seven babies. I was her midwife and video taped it all.  I found great homes for all the little ones, but couldn't find a home for Wyile.  She is all black with green eyes.  Has the most lush, short fur I've ever seen on a cat-just like velvet too.  She loves people- all people and has to be around everyone.  She is greatful for her life and lets you know it.  I also have an orange short hair that looks and acts just like your Manny.  He's a stray that took 6 months to get close enough to, to feed.  He is an outside buddy who just turned two.  My son named him Tim, after his Uncle Tim who used to be homeless until my sister married him.  Both Tim's are doing great, now.  I have cared for and rescued and found homes for many, many other cats over the years.  All were spayed or neutered and go to the vet.  All are precious and have different personalities.  I was raised to think cats are evil and up to no good.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  I also have a dog and have had two others dogs that lived to 16 and 18 years.  I wish you the best with your Manny.  Thanks for taking him in to your home.  He will love you forever for it!.

I have had many cats over the years growing up...I am a HUGE cat lover, I do not think I could ever live without one. I have two cats right now used to have three.

Trixie (15 yrs Old) Crabby as hell but I still love her, she is a farm cat that my neighbour was giving away...just can't resist when you have a box full of cute fuzzy kittens. She weighs about 20 pounds and is a pure black cat with full looong hair.

Then theres Smartie (He lived to be about 18 Yrs Old) We just had to put him down this past winter :( He was the most loveable and cuddly cat you could ever have. We got him from the pound, my mom had gone looking for a kitten, but when she saw him it was love at first site. He was an Orangy Copper Colour

Then theres my new on Skittles (He's about 2 yrs Old) Boy does this cat have a personality. I got him when I moved away to school, Parents weren't too happy bringing home another cat but they love him just as much as the others. He's the biggest people cat...he loves to lean against you when you are just sitting on the couch, just to be there....He's my bestest friend, I wouldn't be able to live without him!!!

I just came across your blog and it really brightened my day! Thanks Manny! I am thinking of adopting my first pet (cat) of my very own! I recently lost my grandmother who I took care of for 3 years. Now it seems my whole world is changing and the grief is horrible at times. I think having my own "Manny" will help me through this with a little more ease.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your blog!
    Hugs,

I have (9) cats (all from the street or the pound)(the oldest making it to 19) and three dogs and have had a couple of hundred come and go in my life, and I'm telling you cats rule.  They all have there own personalities and quirks.  They can agrivate you to death and turn around and break your heart to pieces (when they pass on); but I wouldn't know what to do with out them they are my babies.  They are always there when you need some lovin and there with a purr to make you feel better; yet when you want to be left alone they just sit quitly by your side.  They aren't as needy as dogs, as a matter of fact they really don't need us (human beings) at all (mine re-inforce that every day. I'm just happy they decided to adopt me.
Look forward to allot more surprises from your cat, mine surprise me with something new every day.  For example I have one (BeBe) that has decided that it is her job that every time I wash my face or brush my teeth (as I'm bending over the sink) to jump on my back and and lay down on my shoulder back area and suppervise the process.

I love hearing about Manny!  We have a black cat, Kitty, going on 15 yrs. old.  She weighs only 6 lbs and that's the most she's ever weighted. A very prim, proper and petite cat.  My daughter got Kitty when she was a kitten from a lady gladly giving away kittens.  Our daughter married almost 10 yrs ago and we still have Kitty.  Kitty is not a sociable one and usually hides when children are around and will imediately come out from where ever when they leave.  She likes peace and quiet and maybe that comes with living with retired folks.  We love her and she loves us!  May you and Manny have many happy years together.

I have 4 cats, all females, all spayed, and all rescues.  Kitty is 12, Fatzo is 5, Raven is 2 and Missy is 10 months.   All were dump offs that I could not say no too, and they have repaid my kindness many times over.  People say cats don't show love.  I don't believe that at all, My four now and my last cat ,Mouse, who was put to sleep last year because of cancer all have shown me more love than I ever thought possible.   Mouse used to go for walks with me(no leash)  car rides, just like a dog.  I also had a orange cat years ago, she was an apricot color tabby.  Lynn

I have an orange cat that is a female. She is currently 12 years old. She isn't a bright orange, kind of a dull orange color. Very shy with strangers, but very gentle and not a fighter at all! She who runs away lives to eat another day I believe is her motto. And eat she does, she weighs 17 pounds!

My cat's name is Harold and I've had him now for four years.  I adopted him from northshore animal league and he is just the love of my life.  When i drive in the driveway he appears from nowhere.  He recognizes the sound of my carI know that for sure. He also knows when i open a container of yoghurt.  That metal foil sound that you can hardly hear.  As soon as that foil is pulled back again out of nowhere he is pawing my pant leg wanting a some.  Any flovor it doesn't matter.

I have 2 cats spot and romeo spot is 25 lbs and does the same as your cat except if your reading a book he will lay next to you wait till you put the book down then he lays on top of it looks like he's reading. Romeo on the other hand is a trip I have him for 4 years the only time he comes near me is in the morning upstairs I have to sit on the couch and pretend not to see him coming while he sneaks around then jumps up on the couch, crawls over to me, lays his body around my leg. now i can pet him, brush him . once his paws touch the ground again I can't get near him. each cat has it's own personality and they're all nuts! just love them to death and enjoy them!
